Description
A decadent and moist dark chocolate cake that’s rich in flavor and perfect for special occasions or as an indulgent treat.
Ingredients
Scale
1½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
½ cup vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the buttermilk and mix well.
- Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Slowly stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth and slightly thin.
- Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and decorate: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting or ganache.
Notes
- For extra decadence, add a layer of chocolate ganache between the cake layers.
- Use hot coffee instead of water to enhance the chocolate flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
