- 1 pound ground beef (or any plant-based ground alternative)
- 1/2 pound bacon (or turkey bacon)
- 2 large onions
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup honey
- Additional 1/4 cup honey for glaze
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the onions into 1/2-inch thick rings and separate them.
- Take a tablespoon of ground beef and press it into the bottom of an onion ring.
- Wrap each stuffed onion ring with bacon and secure it with a toothpick.
- Dip each onion ring into flour, then egg wash, and finally breadcrumbs.
- Place the onion rings on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, mix ketchup and honey in a small bowl for the sauce.
- After 20 minutes, remove the onion rings from the oven and brush them with the honey glaze.
- Return the onion rings to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of each onion ring and bake for 5 more minutes or until cheese is melted.
Notes
You can customize the filling with your favorite burger toppings like pickles or jalapenos.
