This classic Tuna Melt is layered with creamy tuna salad, sharp white cheddar, and fresh tomato slices, all grilled between buttered bread until golden and melty. Perfect for an easy lunch or cozy dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (6 oz) cans white tuna in water, drained and flaked
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 slices bread
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 8 slices white cheddar cheese
  • 1 large tomato, sliced (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. In a medium bowl, mix tuna, mayo, lemon juice, celery, green onion, parsley, salt, and pepper until well combined.

3. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.

4. Place 4 slices on a baking sheet, buttered side down.

5. Top each with 1/4 of the tuna mixture, 2 slices of cheese, and tomato slices (if using).

6. Cover with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.

7. Bake in the oven for 5–8 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bread is golden and crispy.

8. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

• Use tuna in water, not oil, to avoid excess grease in the salad.

• Always taste the tuna salad before adding more salt.

• Make sure the butter is softened and evenly spread for crisp, golden results.

• Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat at 350°F (177°C) for 10 minutes.

• Not suitable for freezing.
