Possibly the BEST French Toast ever! Thick slices of rich Challah soaked in egg mixture, fried to perfection, coated in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with cream cheese icing.

Ingredients

For the cream cheese glaze:

  • 4 tablespoons cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the cinnamon sugar:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For the toast:

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon good honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large loaf challah, sliced into 1/2-inch thick slices
  • Unsalted butter
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 250°F.

2. Make the glaze by beating all glaze ingredients until smooth. Set aside in a zip-top bag.

3. Combine cinnamon sugar ingredients in a shallow bowl.

4. Whisk eggs, milk, orange zest, vanilla, honey, and salt in a large shallow bowl. Soak bread slices for 5 minutes.

5. Heat butter and oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook soaked bread 2-3 minutes per side until browned.

6. Dip cooked French toast in cinnamon sugar, place on sheet pan, keep warm in oven.

7. Repeat until all bread is cooked.

8. Drizzle cream cheese glaze over warm French toast and serve immediately.

Notes

Use challah bread for the best texture and flavor.

Keep French toast warm in oven until serving.

Glaze can be stored in fridge and used within 3 days.
